Ayreen Khan
Ayreen Khan is a visual artist, writer and researcher from Bangladesh. Her work portrays visions of spiritual awareness through mystical states, exploring life and asking questions. Her images are vivid, translating themes from world traditions such as Tasawwuf/Sufism, Thangka/Tibetan Buddhist painting, Tantra, Sacred Geometry, and Mandala (Spiritual/ritual symbolism from Abrahamic religions, Hinduism and Buddhism). Ayreen’s work depicts infinite forms within formless time and space, reflecting our life stories and situations. The art points at love, rage, grief, pain, violence, beauty, ugliness, pleasure, separation and unification. Her work has been described as a personal journey of healing, awakening, becoming, and unbecoming. She leads the “Voices of Bangladesh”, this project intended to display how women and other marginalised groups helped lay the groundwork for the great liberation struggle that led to Bangladesh’s freedom. The videos share tales of indigenous groups, women who fought for freedom, and key witnesses to Bangladesh’s liberation struggle. This project was initiated by Ayreen Khan and organised by the US Embassy.
